Hi all,

First poster and I want to ask a general question, and yes, unfortunately it involves spam email etc.

I have a corporate email account and recently I had a run in with a subordinate, a few days later my email address is inundated with spam e-blasts and I trust my suspicions.

Now, there may be nothing I can do about this, and the best advice is to delete all the spam, but my account has been spam free for 7 years and our webmail/email filters at the company are excellent.....

So a quick question: Is there any way I can prove (and how) to obtain the IP/MAC address that the address was originally regsitered from?

Hi and welcome,
I don't think that info would be handed over to us ordinary people - even some law enforcement agencies have a fight to get any info re online activity.
Also, in what country is the provider? It could be anywhere.
What if the instigator did the deed in some anonymous internet cafe or similar - probably untraceable.

Unless I'm mistaken, or your company's IT people can do any more - I fear you've a lot of deleting.

Yeah, as this is a corporate PC, you are going to have to deal their IT department........we generally try to avoid getting involved in corporate IT policies....professional courtesy.

The IT Department is my own dept, but only they can see where the emails originated from (i.e. the spam site) and not the person sitting at home registering my email account for an e-blast of spam.....

I was looking to see if these sites can be contacted (or with a FOI request) (I'm in the UK btw) to find out further info....

I suspect that the only way to do this is to submit a police query, then they can goto ISP's etc and I still won't have the info I need....which is way over the top for such a small issue....

Don't worry fellas, I'll just manage this one (and get deleting/updating our spam software)

thanks for understanding.......It should be fairly easy to put a spam rule for that blaster.........
