Windows Live OneCare not doing its job
Before I started this thread,I did a "search's",key words OneCare, etc; to make sure this wasn't a repeat subject...that in itself was quite a daunting task...but there were common factors here, that didn't surprise me.The majority of the posts with the words OneCare were in the "Malware" threads.
Wow,were do I begin,,,I guess to try and keep this as short as possible,I will just tell my experience with OneCare, and let it get sorted from there. So simply put,I just uninstalled the Windows Live OneCare as my only firewall/virus/spyware program, and downloaded CA security suite...when Ca was done with all of its initial scans it performs after installing,I received in my "spyware" scan log that it found 18 spyware programs,,,1 was a Trojan,1 Adware,15 Tracking cookies,1 CC,(?)...and I was to say the least,a bit shocked.I had OneCare running all this time, trusting it was doing it's job.But evidently it wasn't. And I know I had OneCare settings as tight as possible, just slightly above the default settings.
And then I had remembered a previous time I had OneCare, which was when I first got my computer, and a friend recommended ZoneAlarm,so I tried that software. I remember having the same issue, where ZA had found spyware after the uninstall of OneCare...not as many,or as high a threat level as the Trojan, and Adware that I just had,,,low level tracking cookies, was pretty much it. And somewhere down the line,(after my subscription ended with Zone Alarm) I had forgot my experience with OneCare, and re-used the program again, mostly because I'm on an extreme budget.
My whole point here is that I myself wouldn't recommend OneCare whatsoever, for people to use.I did have the "Free-Trial" software, but that shouldn't make that much difference. And I know that OneCare has shared folders with "Windows Defender",being the program that is responsible for watching over Spyware.
And I find it interesting, that every post I read, where people were having "Malware/Spyware" problems,in they're HighjackThis logs,I saw OneCare in the list. And my reason for taking OneCare out lastnight,is I happened to come accross a few reviews and surveys about OneCare, and none of them were good,,,now I see why.
I'm by no means,a computer expert,or full fledged Geek,(just a wanna-be, )and I tell everyone,I know just enough to be dangerous,lol...But I'm sure of this,,,OneCare is a piece of crap.
And I might be opening a big can of worms here, and I know I will be open to disagreement's...thats Ok...like I said, this is my opinion, and I just want people to know that there are issues here that should be looked at.Make up your own minds.
Thank You to TechGuy for giving me the opportunity to post this subject...it.s a very usefull and helpfull format. And Thanx to you all who have taken the time to read this.

Peace.

Due to advancing years I can no longer remember where I found it, but I know that I saw a 'test' site that placed One Care at, or near, the bottom of its rankings. It is a fact that the 'findings' of all these test or comparison sites need to be treated with caution.

Having said that, it is no surprise that the authors of the most insecure OS on the planet should market a security app that is as bad as the OS it is supposed to 'protect'.
