Solved: Problems with Zonealarm and Truevector
Hi,

I have recently installed Zonealarm as my Firewall, as I had a lot of problems with Norton 360 and their technical support was not able to help me.

My problem now is that I every now and then get a pop-up that the Truevector service had to be stopped. When I click OK I seems like Zonealarm is frozen, and I have to restart my PC to have zonealarm working.

I have read somewhere that Zonealarm have had problems with this Truevector service but it should be solved with latest version of Zonealarm, which I believe I have.

Can you give me any help or hints on how to resolve this issue with zonealarm.

Otherwise I would like to know what other free firewalls are available.

Best regards

Glenn

Yes Norton 360 has a firewall, but due an issue with Norton 360 that their tech. support was not able to resolve, I have chosen to uninstall Norton 360.

I then found Zonealarm which should be one of the better free firewalls available, but now I have this issue with the Truevector service.

Hi Paula,

Could you post the email from Zone Alarm on how to fix the problem with True Vector. Just in case I decide to install Zone Alarm again.

Hello Paula

Thank you for contacting Zone Labs Support

I understand that TrueVector encountered an error.

I have just installed All-Seeing Eye and have not encountered any issues.

This leads me to believe that there may be a problem with your TrueVector
service. ZoneAlarm is dependent on its TrueVector service to function
properly. You may need to refresh the files associated with this service.
Please follow the steps listed below.

Please note that this will remove your program permission settings (so you
may want to make note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple
process. If any of the steps below does not apply to you, or you are
unable to perform the function listed, please continue to the next step.

** NOTE - Beginning with ZA+/ZAP version 4, you can create a Backup
of your settings, and then restore them afterwards. See the local
ZoneAlarm Help files for specifics.

- Shutdown ZoneAlarm

- Open the Internet Logs directory (in 98SE/ME this will be
c:\windows\internet logs, in 2000 it will be c:\winnt\internet logs, in
Windows XP it could be either of these folders). If you need to keep a copy
of old alerts, copy the ZAlog.txt file to another location first - then DELETE
ALL FILES in this folder.

**Note - If any files failed to delete, continue to the next file.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.
- Reboot.

This fixed it for me so keep a copy somewhere if you think you'll use Zone Alarm againb. I thought even the free version came with online support/
