Angry AVG problems
I have been having problems with the AVG freeware. I download it, it runs for a few days, maybe a week. Then, suddenly, the resident shield doesn't work and sometimes the virus protection disappears. I keep uninstalling, reinstalling, running scans, but nothing helps. I have checked for viruses, spyware, I've defragged, etc. I have zonealarm firewall, which I made sure accepted my AVg programs. Actually, after I posted this, I tried to download and reinstall again, and it wont finish. It says it needs an installment package. I have no idea how to find that.
Any ideas? I am considering trying something else, maybe Windows Defender?

Hard to say, probably you can ask help from AVG. And some malicious programs can disable antivirus software.

The AVG free version doesn't have the real time online monitoring system. Anyway u got it. Just make sure that it is accepted by ZA.

Question not resolved
Well, the AVG free version does not have live support, even email, so I can't ask them. And, I was aware that there was no realtime virus protection. I assume it is supposed to catch any viruses already present in my computer, when the scan runs automatically each day. However, it can't even do that, as it keeps getting corrupted and turning itself off somehow. I made sure that ZA accepted AVG programs.
As for some virus causing the problem, I thought that as well. I went online and ran some scans from web-based programs, and I come up clean.
Any other ideas?
