Hosts Change
Just loaded Spyware Terminator. Has detected something called "Hosts change" under IEXPLORE.exe.

Asked if i wanted to Block or Allow. Blocked it to be on safe side. IEXPLORE.EXE keeps coming up now as blocked on a "Security Shield" program that I assume prtof thisSpyware Terminator.

What is it and is itok to leave it blocked or should i try to get to it andallow this proces.

Thanks

Howdy Ballaterboy,
Blocking ieexplore.exe could be a booboo as I did a google search and came up with the following :http://www.processlibrary.com/direct...FQHmhgodGxELyQ. If you check it out, you will see that no ieexplore.exe stops a heap of microsoft processes. It is supposed to be active and able to go where it wants. You probabley won't be able to surf the net with it disallowed.
Regards Paula

Talking Spyware terminator
Hi Paula,
Absolutely right. Spyware Terminator was highly rated by Computer Active Mag, but for this silver surfer it was a pain in the ****!!!! Kept coming up with all sorts that i needed to make a decision on whether or not to block or allow.
Just got totally fed up with it over the last 24 hours and just letting my System mechanic 6 along with AVG AV handle my system. It seems to do the job.
Thinking of investing in Sytem Mechanic 7 (when this poor old retired begger cann afford a couple of shekels!!). However, 6 seems to do the job ok so I always follow the Disney Philosophy with Computers - "DON'T MESS WITH THE MOUSE" if it aint broke don't fix it!!

Thanks for your advice and take care

Howdy BallaterBoy,
I have a few set programmes that I love and have used for the last 6 years and have found very reliable. AV is a matter of choice and I have tried heaps but my kids use AVG free and love it and I have settled with Zone Alarm Security Suite. For malware removal, I run Adaware 2007 Pro (I tend to buy the apps. I like to support the makers) Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5, SpywareBlaster (that guards you from bad sites) and WinPatrolPlus. Spybot Search n Destroy also has a feature called TeaTimer that guards your computer settings, hosts file etc and won't let anything change your settings without your approval. I probable could have used it instead of WinPatrol but I am partial to the little scotty dog in my task bar hehe.
Spyware Terminator has good raps but if you aren't au fait with all the crap that comes with computers, why add extra hassles to what can be a fun pastime? So long as you regularly update at least once a week (AV every day of course!!) you should be fine. There are a lot of good programmes around and I regularly google search for reviews to see what is around but for ease of use, I tend to stick with the programmes I know.
Regards Paula

System Mechanic
Hi Paula,
Yeah I am now using AVG AV Free. Seems to do a good job. Also using Adaware 2007 free. Now a Tour Guide at a distillery near home rather than on the road, so i don't worry about scheduling tasks on adaware as i can run it on a regular basis.
Have a look at System mechanic. my pal and i love it. it really keeps my system running sweet. Loads of tools inc; spyware, junk removal, memory clean all sorts. unlike some it doesn't do anything harsh that can really screw your system. Worth looking at. Got version 6 in a bundle a while ago but there is a version 7 now on sale.
Also using AVG Anti Root Kit Free. AVG have some cracking little programmes. My other good one is Ashampoo Magical Defrag. Just works in the background.

Well must go. 08.15 here and I have Tourists to the Highlands to look after!!! Had some really nice Aussies yesterday sampling our Royal Lochnager Single malt.

Must be late on for you so take care and nice to chat.

regards Angus

Howdy Angus,
It is only 6.20pm here, but you obviously have an early start. I am lucky, work doesn't start until 9am, and thats early enough for me, though I get up earlier come summer as it gets too hot outside to do anything once summer hits.Have fun with the tourists....we aussies usually have a weird and warped sense of humour although there always stick in the muds wherever you go these days!! Enjoy the single malt.Would be yum.
Nice to chat also,
Regards Paula
