Question WHat IS The Best Anti-Virus Software
I am currently running Norton and it catches NOTHING. I need to get something new ASAP so if any of you expert people here can help I would appreicate it greatly.

Also a PC cleaner?

Thanks in advance for your time.

That is a 'how long is a piece of string' question. The answer will depend on your surfing habits and your other security software such as anti trojan programs etc..

You can get some idea of one set of test results here; http://www.av-comparatives.org/ (click on 'Comparatives' in the menu at top left and then on the links to May and August Online results). You will need to read the details of what has been tested to place the results in any kind of perspective.

I use NOD32 which happens to have achieved 'ADVANCED + in both series of tests, but I wouldn't claim that that makes it the best.

I first got it three years ago when I had an underpowered 98 computer and resource use was important. I have just taken out my second two year licence for just under Ł15 per year which, at just over 4 pence per day, means I don't think twice about the free programs, however good they may be.

PS. There are more cleaners than you can shake a stick at. Window Washer is good if you want to pay, CCleaner if not.

Thanks Togg...

Hi Whit I have had several Trojans in the past month that I only picked up through Spyware Doctor. I also had a Tanspy today and an AdwareWSearch.0 today that was not detected through Norton.

Any feedback on P-Cillin, Panda, or Kaspersky?

Is this stuff all Malware?? If so, Norton doesn't necessarily catch it, and other AVs may not normally catch it either. That's why you need to run other protection apps in addition to an AV.

I was with AOL for ages until they totaly went poop up and they used GDATA which kept me secure for years, it was at last time i looked No2 in the reviews and damn safe !!

Im now with t-online in Germany and we have Norton which should have a name change to NOT...ON which would be more respectable as like you say it catches nothing ..it just lets them all in for tea....and cake...and breakfast the next day.

On my Xp computer I run the grisoft avg anti virus.... free, and have had no trouble... (also put it on several family/friends computers with good luck.)
On my old laptop running win 98SE, I use the free avast antivirus programs.
I would also encourage you to put a firewall (www.zonelabs.com) zone alarm is a good one. and a couple of spyware preventers/remover www.lavasoft.com for ad-aware and www.spybot.com for spybot search n destroy. These are all free. Can get links from www.majorgeek.com or www.download.com.
also ccleaner will help keep your computer clean...
good luck.

Avira works well.
I like Avira and it has caught a couple of viruses in downloads. It also has one annoying feature: it falsly flags at least one program as having a virus.

Trend Micro Internet Security 2007
Trend Micro Internet Security is a good av/as, it has a strong antivirus engine that microsoft approves and it also helps with email scanning and windows updates; i give it a 9/10 rating

Well U can read as many reports and comparations as U can find, but one thing is sure one antivirus angine is never enough when U do a lot of surfing and downloads from the net.

My computer is not plenty of resources so I´m using NOD32 and AVG free edition at the same time and I´m cleaning of virus infections in this machine.

Spywares, Malwares and adwares are other stuff. I use a free suite of 3 products: Adaware SE personal (from lavasoft), Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster (from Javacool Software). The first is to look for these _wares and eliminate them in ur HDD (the paid version has monitoring in real time), the second uses a combination of the look and kill with the inmunization of the system to prevent malwares installation and the third only does the inmunization of the system.

All this system keeps me clean and safe for more than two years.
