Question Anyone Use Bit Defender?
Thinking of purchasing to replace Norton. From what i have read it doesnt have backup or password protection. I am so confused as to what to purchase.

This link for Top 2008 Shows Two I have never heard of. Both rate higher on the list than those I was contemplating.

Howdy ColtsFan2007
Try a google search and look for reviews of the programme you like. The top two in that particular review- I have heard of the second one but not the first. I like to get multiple reviews before I jump in as sometimes I wonder if the reviewers are paid to put a particular programme first if I have never heard of it!! I have heard good things of BitDefender...it all depends on what you want from your programme. I run ZoneAlarm Security Suite and think it is great but some reviews put it down the list, yet I have never had any problems since I have been using it. NOD32 is very good and for a free AV avg is also very good.Nortons and Macafee are resource hogs from personal experience and other threads on these forums.
Regards Paula

I would stay away from the first one listed too because I never heard of them.

In answer to the topic's question -- Yes, I use BitDefender 2008 antivirus. It is easy on system resources, easy to use, and consistently ranks in the highest tier by AV-Comparatives. Great support forum. Friendly community. In short, I recommend it.

To bellgamin

Well i didn't test the 08 version, but when i tested the 07 version,i found that it uses just A BIT more resources and drags your system just A BIT more than kaspersky. Also,i went to a lot of those bogus, got a TON of viruses and spyware and found that it falls just A BIT more than kaspersky.Overall it's stlll MUCH better than norton though

KAV brought my computer (1.7 Ghz cpu) to its knees.

OTOH, BitDefender 2008 presents no perceptible drag whatsoever. Further, BD now has a "game mode" for those who demand even greater zip for gaming purposes. (By the way, the price for BD 2008 has been reduced to only $24.95.)

If one seeketh freebies then consider following information (based on recent tests by AV-Comp)...

*Antivir-Personal Edition is rated top tier, but doesn't cover spyware. Covered 11 of 12 polymorphics (See Note 1 below). Updates can be sluggish & frustrating.

*AVG also is rated top tier, but only covered 3 of 12 polymorphics (See Note 2 below). Updates fast & easy.

*AVAST is rated 2nd tier, covers a full spectrum of malware, but only covered 3 of 12 polymorphics. Updates fast & easy.

NOTE 1- If you are interested in learning more about polymorphics & metamorphics -- possibly the biggest threats for the near future -- go HERE

NOTE 2- Subsequent to AV-Comp's latest tests, Grisoft reported that they have "improved" AVG's performance against polymorphics -- see THIS post.

Well i guess different people,or rather different computers, will have different results for different antiviruses. But the no of people having good experiences with norton/mcafee is still very low compard to bad
