Solved: Drive_irql_not_less_or_equal post security install
Here's my sad story. We got new computers that operate on Windows Vista. The free security expired, so I went to download the Cox security suite that comes with our internet subscription. Through that program, Norton was uninstalled, and the new suite was installed. I do run AVG, but wanted the firewall protection. It said we couldn't have both avg and their antivirus, and my assumption was that by not clicking the virus box, that portion of the suite wouldn't be downloaded. (This may not be the issue at all...)

The computer restarted and all seemed to be well, so I started the same procedure on our 2nd computer.

Then, the computer commenced to crash. The blue screen message (what I could see of it) is: driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

Once I saw what was happening, I tried to unistall the suite from the 2nd computer, but too late. It went into the blue screen, constant restart mode.

Both computers continue to restart continually, and are not functional. Help!

Okay. Problem solved. First, I could not get into safe mode with either computer. Then, for some unknown-to-me reason, safe mode worked. Only problem was that I couldn't see or access most icons and the start up menu. They were off to the left of the screen. Changing the display didn't work. But, I right clicked on the screen and selected "create a shortcut", browsed to find the offending program, and created a shortcut. Then, I right-clicked on the shortcut to delete it, and of course got the message telling me if I really wanted to delete it, to go to programs and features. The message included a link to the previously-denied programs and features, and I was able to delete it within safe mode.

Elegant? NO! Computer up and running properly? YES Lesson: no more internet provided security program ever again...
