Hi i need your thoughts on whether there could be any malicious activity going on.

i did a new install of xp sp2 recently on a upgrade machine and now i have like 5 svchost.exe
Two are under the name of 'network service', two are under the name of 'system' and one is under the name of local service. When i was running my old xp i didn't have this many, should i be worried.

I did a avg scan and it found a trojan which i removed. I also did a spybot s&d scan and that just found one tracking cookie thats all.

Still after the scan I noticed one of my folders dissappear, i did a system restore to get it back.
This probably sounds stupid but after the system restore I uninstalled a game demo but the demo was not removed, even though the add/remove programs tool showed it had.

Do you think there could be a virus/spyware that has not been detected or is this something else unrelated.

By the way can i use more than one firewall or will there be confilcts, problems?

No you should not worry, svchost.exe is used for many common tasks in windows.

Download and Run HijackThis
Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.

• Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
• Click on Install.
• It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
• Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ok thanks for your reply, i thought no one had.

I just found my system restore turned off even though i didn't turn it off, now i have lost all my previous restore points, weird because so far I haven't detected any virus or spyware.
