Red face Solved: No longer administrator of my own PC
I have mistakenly deleted my administrator account for my pc and now I cannot download, add or delete programs and cann't even do a simple defrag of my own computer. I have lost total control of my own system. I seem to have only a limited user account in the control panel. I was told that I couldn't delete the administrator account and decided to see why, and now I see why. Is there anyway I can resolve my problem? I cann't even wipe my system and start anew or do a restore as I am no longer the administator. I have had friends look at it and I've stummped them too. Any help would be appreciated. My system is an IBM netvista, P4, with XP home version.

PS: I don't have an install disc as this came with XPHome preinstalled when I bought it. After reading several forums here I see that because of security reasons with administrator passwords ect.,I may not be able to get help with this, and may have to purchase a new hard drive and an XP disc to start anew. True??

Restart the computer into Safe Mode.. When you do so, you'll see a hidden account titled "Administrator". Click on it, leave the password blank, then log in. It should allow you to reboot the computer into Safe Mode with an account with admin rights.

Hope this helps.

Yep, just create another account from Safe Mode. You can get into Safe Mode by tapping F8 hen the computer is first starting.

Thanks! However it doesn't work. As it started in safe mode, my normal log in window opens with no administrator option to log into. Just my limited access acount and password log in window opens.

Can you do a system restore in safe mode? Take it back to a time before the incident.

Thumbs up Problem Solved.
Thank you all . Problem solved. System restore in Safe Mode restored my administative account to before I made the mistake of deleting my admin account. I won't try that again soon!
