Cool Solved: Cleaning up - unable to remove 20's HTJ
Computer infected with a number of things including winfixer.
WinXP Home with SP2

Did some basic cleanup
1) Ran Cleanup 452
2) Ran AVG Anti-Spyware (Removed tons)
3) Ran AVG Anti-Virus
4) Ran Adaware 2007
5) Ran Spybots 15
I can usually get most of this on my own...but need help from time to time.
Ran in safe mode as well.

There are a couple of entries that keep returning - see 20's

Ooops - posted to wrong forum - can someone move this to Malware

Download ComboFix to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running as that may cause it to stall

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Quote:
Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kualpixt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jxlmolts.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aafhgisr.dll

Folders to delete:
C:\Program Files\WinFixer

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Rescan with Hijack This, close all browser windows except Hijack This, put a checkmark beside these entries and click fix checked.

I'm still getting something that is generating a couple of temp files in C:\windows\temp...
That is keeping these 020 entries around..

I've tracked down the Registry entry that appears to use them in a startup rename

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager
Entry : PendingFileRenameOperations Value \??\C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\1.tmp
!\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\aafhgisr.dll
\??\C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp
!\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\jxlmolts.dll
\??\C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\3.tmp
!\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\kualpixt.dll

I can't seem to find what startup program is rebuilding the temp files.

I suspect these entries

We better dig deeper.

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.
  • Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
    • In the Processes group click ALL
    • In the Win32 Services group click ALL
    • In the Driver Services group click ALL
    • In the Registry group click ALL
    • In the Files Created Within group click 60 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
    • In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
    • In the File String Search group select ALL
in the Additional scans sections please press select ALL
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file but click on the "Format" menu and make sure that "word wrap" is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Upload the report as an attachment please.
