Problem is that Windows XP SP2 and Firefox 2.1.1.2 can't access internet once they are updated from an installation?

Firefox won't go to any internet set. when I start firefox, it flashes up the correct site and then goes to an "unable to connect" screen. Internet Explorer 6 does the same thing on this system.

This is the second time that this computer has had this issue. No other PC I've had has shown these issues in quite the same way. Last responses all pointed to a firewall setting. Firewall re-calibration and even turning off the firewall on the XP SP2 system did not solve the problem.

This problem occurs in both XP home and professional with SP 2 installed.

I reinstalled the OS from xp pro to xp home and the system worked for two days while i updated all of the patches for xp home and when i finally installed xp sp2 and norton av 2004 pro, no more internet.

i de installed sp2 and norton av to try to fix problem then rolled back the system to installation point ... all to no avail.no more internet.any ideas??

I am connecting to the internet through 802.11 on hotel networks however the problems is the same when I connect with RJ45 to a hotel network and it evidences the same in multiple hotesl with different providers and at my home on wireless local network.

I found the problem tonight. Still don't know why. I deinstalled everything on the machine having to do with security from the last solution to the first then I went into services and disabled all of the MS services that appeared network communications related. This worked. Then I enabled the services back until I found the culprit. It was the Microsoft HTTP SSL service.

Now my question is ... Why would this service block all of my browsing? Doies anyone have any ideas on that. I can always disable the cause but I would like to know why and I don't have a real clue. Help??
