Talking I need advise on security for my computer...please
Hi There

My computer is currently running McAfee Security Centre but my subscription is nearly expired and I'm wondering if there is a better internet security software to use. I'm mostly interested in Firewall, AV etc. Any advise would be greatfully received as I find McAfee uses a lot of my cpu on occassions and the scan takes forever...

Many thanx guys

xx

Thanx very much this is a very informative site and has given me a lot of things to think about. It must have taken you a while to put all that info together.

I'd also like to mention that I have uniblue power suite that has a spy eraser, so am I right in thinking that I just need a good firewall and AV software? I dont feel I could trust the windows firewall !! I also use spybot and ad-aware on an as an when basis, usually once a week.

Many thanks for your time xx

HUH? What in his comment prompted you to post a derogatory one? Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?

Apparently so. I have no recollection of answering this, especially not in that manner. Apologies!

I consider a properly configured router to be the first line of defense. After that, in order of importance:
  1. Software Firewall
  2. Anti-SpyWare
  3. Anti-Virus
  4. Applications
    • Firefox
    • Thunderbird
  5. Common sense, good browsing habits

Dont worry, I just thought I was being a bit thick lol. Thank you for all your help and advise.

I have now got,

1. PC Tool Firewall Plus

2. Avast

3. Uniblue Powersuite inc Spy Eraser (already had this)

4. Spybot S&D (run once a week)

5. Ad-Aware SE (run once a week)

6. I'm very careful about which sites I visit and what links I click on

Thank you again for your advise, it is greatly appreciated
