CCleaner Registry scan
i have the program ccleaner and i ran a registry scan. it gave me a big huge list of problems, but I'm a little hesitant to delete them because they are from programs like windows media player and other trusted applications
what should i do?

Yep I would agree with MFDnNC, unless you really know what your doing don't mess with the registry.

I don't see what is wrong with using them as long as you back your registry up. I use CCleaner all the time and I've never had any problems, basically the only thing it has done is remove leftover stuff from programs.

I agree, as long as you know what you're deleting.

Hi Registry cleaners can and often do remove a system file or two and you may find you cannot restart your system.
A backup is only of any use if you can reboot your system.

If you "know what you are doing" and understand everything that the cleaner is removing, feel free to run it.
If there is any doubt, don't remove it.

Bottom line: cleaning the registry serves little purpose.

I just completely remove everything that CCleaner finds... I can easily reinstall Windows, so I don't mind if I have to, but if that isn't the case for you then maybe you shouldn't be removing stuff from it.

Another question: Is it possible to view and edit the registry from a live Windows CD, such as ERD Commander?

And, if on the next boot, your PC doesn't boot because of what was removed, how do you get to the backup?

And, because this can not be said for ALL users, we do not advocate their use.
As an example, see this post
