Anti-virus activation
I recently bought a laptop computer (ACER 3683). Window vista (Basic) & Norton Internet Security 2006 were already stored in the system. Now, I want to activate the NIS & it's telling me to buy the key from the net. Do I need to buy a key since I paid for everything when I bought the system? Please, tell me what to do!

If they gave you the NIS CD (which they should have done), the key is on the envelope.

If they didn't give you the NIS CD, then check all of the documents that came with the machine. As wk2000 says, it may be listed on your receipt.

If it's in neither place, then I'd call the manufacturer's support line or ask the store people if you bought it in a retail store.

Also, you may want to check on the bottom of the machine. Sometimes they put stickers there, though usually it's just the Windows CD sticker.

There is no NIS key in the receipt. There is no key also at the back of the system. I contacted the company & they told me that I have to buy the key from the net. Well, they have cheated me. I will delect it & look for another anti-virus program. Thanks for your suggestions!

I have two friends that bought two Acer desktops and one HP laptop within within the last four months. All their trials were NIS 2007.This would seem rather strange that yours had 2006.Their trials was for 3 months and not for a year. They didn't receive any cds for this by the way.I've uninstalled those trials for them within a few days.I installed AVG free antivirus and antispyware and also Superantispyware free with the windows firewall turned on.I figured this setup wouldn't cause them to many problems. From what I've read is that NIS2006 was the biggest resource hog of them all. They noticed the speed difference right away.
