The Best Security Programs?
I have another computer on which, my anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware/anti-malware monthly service had expired. I'm not interested in getting hand-me-down programs that are free. I want to get something that's possibly top of the line. I don't mind having a seperate firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware/anti-malware remover. I just want to be protected as greatly as possible, I am willing to purchase the program(s) as long as there arn't any monthly fees.

Are there any programs that come in mind?

NOD32 is not completely user friendly but works great and is very lightweight. If you have a router and the Windows firewall enabled, you do not need a hardware firewall. I don't know of any shareware anti-spyware programs off-hand. There will be yearly fees for all these services, too. Just so you know the free anti-virus engines and real time protection are just as good as the ones you must pay for.

Well... If you claim that free is just as good as the monthly fee programs. I'd like to see some of these programs.

AVG and Norton are not in my best interest for protection.
And i'm sure there are many programs that only require to be bought and no monthly fees, i can't name them off the top of my head though, my memory isn't so great.

Whatever the case may be, free or bought. I'd like to get the greatest protection possible without having to pay monthly/yearly.

AVG Free and Avast Home are the best free anti-virus apps. Why don't you like AVG?

You're going to have to pay yearly or monthly to keep getting updates, which you really must.

NOD 32 is very user friendly, no idea where you got the idea that it wasnt.
AVG free is probably the best freebie.....BUT there is no such thing as a free lunch so a free A/V program will be limited.
NOD 32 will update as soon as there is a new threat in the wild, that means sometimes over 30 times per day and not weekly or monthly.
I pay around £50.00 for a 3 year subscription to NOD 32.....is that expensive?....I think not.
A router with a built in firewall and RogueRemover or SuperAntispyware should give you peace of mind.

Stay away from Norton, its the pits of a program!!

I meant that it has very advanced options and can sometimes be hard to use.

Here's a link that I just found out about that rates the firewalls and the top one is free. Free doesn't always mean bad.

If I had the budget, I would buy the Sonicwall TZ 180 ($630) . It has gateway antivirus, antispyware, deep packet inspection firewall and intrusion prevention. If you have more than 4 PCs to protect, its not a bad deal.

Actually was just removing Superantispyware Pro from one of my machines account free time used up and I had another spyware running. Naturally I was looking for another free one (Superantispyware Pro)

During removal their screen came up offerring two licenses for just on $30 us dollars.

Cheap as chips I reckon so bought the package, numbers (Licence) back in 5 minutes
both machines now fully protected updated and lifetime. (Program or mine I'm not sure but)

Believe me when I say Ive learnt my lesson with some big name brands and online scans.
Superantispyware Pro now seems to be the first line of attack from Moderators, seniors and all those other Distingushed persons helping us poor sods with Malware.

Protection needs to be multi-layered - no one programme will protect against everything. Have a look here

I personally use grisoft's AVG anti virus (free), Zone Labs ZoneAlarm fire wall (free) Lavasoft's ad-aware and Spybot search n Destroy. all are free. Have used them for several years and had NO problems...(I do keep them updated and run weekly.). Also have installed them on other family member's computers and friends computers with same luck...
You can get links to download at several sites. 2 I know of are www.download.com and www.majorgeek.com.
Good luck
