How do you UN-HIDE hidden folders?
Hello,

I've just noticed that somebody broke into my computer and uploded 21.5 GB of data into the Temporary Internet Files folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

The data is in 8 hidden folders inside the Temporary Internet Files folder so that I have no access to them. Both the Local Settings folder and the Temporary Internet files folder are greyed out. I don't see the 21.5 GB of data. The way I found out is that I right-clicked the Temporary Internet Files folder and chose properties. The atributes are READ ONLY (hidden).

Also 2 files in the 21.5 GB of uploaded data are infected with a JS/Downloader.Agent virus according to my AVG.

I guess the question is How do I un-hide the folders so I can delete this 21.5 GB of data?
Please help. I really need to delete the data asap just in case it could be something illegal.

Hi

You could use a cleaner like Cleanup! - it will clear out that folder.

Other than that. for Win2K/XP

Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Open ANY folder on your computer. If you have one on your desktop or want one, right click on your desktop, scroll down to New>, click folder, and a new folder will open on your desktop.

Once you open a volder, in the menu at the top of the window, click Tools, Folder Options, click the VIEW tab, under the section "hidden files and folders" it is probably checked as "do not show hidden files and folders", click the radio button below it called "show hidden files and folders", click ok, you're done!

Assuming you're on XP of course.

Glaswegian thanks for the cleanup tool. Delafoo thanks for the correct instructions to un-hide folders. I found that the correct options are already checked (or unchecked, as the case may be) in my browser but I still cannot see the 21.5 GB of data residing im my Temporary Internet Files folder.

I've decided to use cleanup as suggested by Glaswegian to clean up everything. First though, I have to backup using carbonite, and that's what I'm doing right now. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help. God bless you!
