Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack
I've got a shield on my task bar telling me I have updates ready for my computer. I click on it to install, it installs, giving a description that it's "Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack (KB936181) and that the intsallation is done... then shortly after, the shield appears on the task bar again.. and so the cycle continues. Does anyone know what it is.. better yet... do you know how to get rid of it?

Do you use Vista or Xp?

For XP fix:

1. Download the update program "msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe" from the Microsoft site, not Windows Update.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2. Run the program and tell it to remove all.

3. Reboot, and run the program again to install it.

4 Run the Windows Update file for "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2".

After reboot, the icon should be gone and it will no longer pop up.

Vista Fix

1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and select Programs and Features.

2. Uninstall all entrys related to Microsoft XML core services (These will be clearly marked)

3. Close everything down back to the desktop and do a search for updates
and you should get the normal 1 XML Core Services 4.0 update.

4. Uninstall this and it should fix the problem.

____

Good Luck!
