Recommendation to MS Live Programmers.
To the People who programme Windows Hotmail/Live Email - or indeed any other Email S.P.

Would it be possible to have an Access Journal included in the Account which records every time the Account has been used? This could work rather like a KeyLogger in that the date, time and duration it was accessed is noted - or just when someone has activated it? Could it be possible to also record the IP Address of the Computer used to do this - rather like some of the Facilities on programmes like Cyberkit - so any unauthorised Intrusion can be noted and reported?

This would be an invaluable Addition to Computer Security and help combat the ever increasing Incidences of Computer Crime. It might help with insuring People against Financial Crime too as any illegal attempt to obtain Credit/Debit Card details sent or stored in an Email Account would be traceable and accountable.

Of course they can but theres reason why they won't. For example the IP Address... Your joking right? E-mail isn't intended to be accessible from only one location, sometimes not even just one user. I wouldn't be happy if I couldn't access my e-mail in Switzerland because I created my account in England. Not to mention the fact I have a dynamic IP.

That would create more issues than it would solve.

Sorry Gibbs but even with the 56k Modem Cyberkit could record an I.P Address from anyone attempting to scan my Computer - even for a few Seconds and from other 56k internet connections - so if someone accsesses your Email via any Computer in the world for a few Minutes then it is entirely feasable to record it. If Google can record your usage and store it for 5 years (as I have been told they can) then monitoring an Email Account is going to be a Cinch. I.P Addresses for Broadband are the same for about a week so the Account Owner can see who (or at least where they were from) has tampered with or accessed it within that time.

I recommend that it should be stored indelibly - to avoid deletion - for at least a month.

This could be particularly useful for anyone who uses public Computer Systems (Libraries, Internet Cafes) because they only visit their Account when the Facility is open - so if the Account has been activated when they aren't someone somewhere has unauthorised access to it.

Sometimes I'd log on, close the Browser, open Cyberkit (with Ping, Traceroute, etc) and watch while all those I.P Addresses would appear. Then I'd Ping the occasionally interesting/intriguing one and see where it came from. Traceroute would show a list in reverse order how the scanner reached my Computer and could prove quite curious. Then I'd Google search the I.P Address and at least see which Company the Scanner was using. I got some very odd results.

This was all possible with the old 56k Modem so what could you do with Broadband? Also, if your Email has the Date and Time received (even deleted items) then it's entirely within the Parameters of the Email Programme to include a Keylogger Type Facility which tells you every time the Account has been accessed. It prevents Internet Fraud, unwarranted Intrusion, Corruption and Theft.
