security tool bar virus
hi i recently started getting critical system errors popping up ( wich i knew were virus generated)
i have these shortcuts on my desktop now

Live Safety Center
Online Security Guide

i have never had this issue before and system restore did not help remove these issues. i know i got this virus by accidentally dlling some active x control or something of that nature.
if you would like i could post a hijack this log so you could see? all help is greatly appreciated.

I actually just solved this on my own for anyone who has the same issues as me download a program called WinPatrol and open IE helpers and removes the suspicious .dll and .bho files, the only way u can do this is by right clicking and hitting remove on restart otherwise the suspicious files come back. i just did this and now i no longer have a security tool bar, any error messages and i simply deleted the unwanted shortcuts that now dont come back

Hi, We see quite often, where a poster has used one or more tools, and feels the entire problem was fixed...we also are aware that we cannot respond quickly enough to all threads, and some have to wait a while and in the meantime, people will try things and may think the computer is all clean- and when we do catch up and run some other scans, quite often serious malware is left to remove...so- I suggest strongly that you at least post your Hijackthis log here, so experts can check it and further advise you.

go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Also, do this:
Open Hijack This and click on the Config button then on "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list into your reply please.
