Problem
Ok, here's what's happened.....

I switched on my laptop today and windows popped up all over the place telling me to install UltimateDefender and that I had a backdoor trojan and various viruses. I did a full scan with Norton but nothing came up. The windows have stopped opening now but I'm still getting little warnings from left of the bottom tool bar telling me I have viruses etc.

I tried to install UltimateDefender as instructed but when i clicked on Install, the first installation screen appeared but then disappeared as if I had never opened it.

Two "Spyware Threat" messages have appeared in the few minutes it took me to type this.

I'm worried.....

Norton is not likely to catch anything of significance.

Thses free ones will do a better job. And the more you use, the more they will find since the threats increase daily and no single database is complete.

Free anti-malware scanners:

Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware 2007
SuperAntiSpyware
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight

I've downloaded several of the programs advised but I cant install them. Everytime I get to the installation screen, it cuts out and disappears.
And warnings keep popping up more than frequently.

Some malware prevents the installation of anti-malware apps, or sometimes anything at all.

See if you can get HijackThis to run. If you can, open a thread in the Malware forum, post the log from HJT, and wait for a Gold Shield to analyze it for you. They will help you clean up whatever is causing the problems.

Scrap that, it installed on the 5th attempt. Thanks Evandil.

I will post the log up in the Malware forum.

Cheers!
