In the General Security forum, there is a sticky note called "security help tools".It has a lot of good links to anti virus and anti spyware and firewalls.

Personally,I am using AVG free antivirus and AVG anti spyware and Comodo Free firewall.I am very pleased with the usability and protection of this combination of products.
My OS is XP home sp2.
Hope this helps a bit.

Yes I would use:

Avg anti spyware free
Avg anti virus free

If you want a firewall I suggest Comodo.

Ad-Aware is a great program but it's not an anti-virus program and there's a new version out now called Ad-Aware 2007.
