worst virus ever
Its called the Windows XP service pack 2. And its compliments of microsoft.
I downloaded it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

I don't know what the problem is. I downloaded it, rebooted, and I ended up with a computer that only operated in 4bit color. I had other viruses/trojans to contend with so I said screw it and reinstalled windows XP.

After I reinstalled, I downloaded the service pack. Once again it sent my comp back to the stone age. I just removed it and my comp works fine again. Does this service pack have any other benefits - aside from completely destroying your computer?

The long and short of it is you should run XP SP2. Deal with it, or with other problems that are far, far worse. If you want the official reasons: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb457009.aspx

And there is some problem with it-don't remember quite what now, but it occurred when I was putting it on a Toshiba laptop & I had to rename some files (oeminfo, IIRC) and then it installed OK. I definitely agree with Chris-you should run it. If it's causing problems try Google-you probably aren't the first to have that problem. (Occasionally you'll even find that Microsoft has documented the problem & published an 'authorized' solution.)

The computer might not support it, or it is a hardware problem - which would mean your computer doesn't support it either.

As for the Toshiba problem, I don't know

Edit: Or, the website/page you got SP2 from was a phisher, thus containing infected files.
