Merry Christmas to all! That said.....I am SO frustrated right now it isn't funny. Someone please help me. I am using McAfee Security Center. I have been trying to download Microsoft Messenger Live and the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer all day and the window comes up that says : "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem....." I go to fix the problems and it still does not work. I shut McAfee AND windows firewall off and when I go into the Windows Security Center it says that there is still a firewall ON! I used to have Norton, but have deleted that. I'm just wondering if it all didn't delete??? Here is my log....ANY help that anyone can give will help me out greatly! TIA!!!

I'm not a HJT expert, so while you are waiting for someone to help I did still see Symantic files in your log, so I'm guessing it is not totally uninstalled. Also weatherbug is full of spyware. (I would feel safe in telling you to get rid of that and run your scanners.) And from another post:

There are usually 3 places in Add/Remove Programs for Norton or Symantec
As long as there are not any other Norton/Symantec programs installed - you can safely remove all 3; especially Live Update

Hi,

I had the same problem with a firewall showing up in my security center. In my case it was the last firewall uninstalled. It told me in security center which firewall it was. I went to the support site for it and they gave me instructions on how to fix the problem, that worked.

Does it show which firewall it is in security center? If so you know who to contact. If not then I'd assume its the last one you removed. You might even be able to find directions for fixing being as you probably aren't the first person to have this problem with that particular product.

Oh and I wouldn't get on the net without a firewall you have installed on. They said this problem was something with xp. So you most likely don't have that ghost firewall running even though it says so.

Yes, it shows Norton under the Windows Security. But now I've completely taken everything out of my computer that says Norton or Symantec!!! It STILL shows it. I don't know if this is the problem with not being able to download anything from Microsoft or not. Although, I've contacted MIcrosoft and they have said it is NOT a problem on their end?!?!? Just very FRUSTRATED right now! Any other suggestions?
