Opening WMV files
Every time I receive a wmv file & try to open it, I get a Security Alert which says: current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded. Please help! I am using a HP desktop with XP home edition service pack2. Petei

Are you downloading the file or trying to play it through IE? If you are playing the file in Internet Explorer then there is a check box in Tools=Internet Options=Security=Internet=Custom Level=Down Loads. Check the radial button to allow for file download. Select reset, and then save. Close and open your browser and try again. Double check to make sure the setting stuck, if does not work at first.

WMV files
The wmv files have been sent to me in outlook express. I do have file downloads allowed in IE as per your request.

Does your Antivirus software also manage Outlook Mail?

I believe it does but I'm not sure. I'm using AVG free edition antivirus.

I have not worked with that software, but I would poke around the email options to see if their is a setting for file download. Second, go into Outlook Express=Select Options=Security Tab=Uncheck the box for:
"Do not allow attachments to be saved......" By default it is checked.

Outlook Express (which is part of Internet Explorer, and is not related to Outlook), is blocking your files. Go to Tools, Options, Security. Uncheck the box that says, "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

Be sure to save the file to your system and run a virus scan on it before you open it.

Problem Solved
Thank you Robert S. The second suggestion of unchecking: do not allow attachments to be saved, did the trick. WMV files are running fine.
