PC is totally "Bonkers" possible infections. Help needed.
Hey friends, been awhile. My aunt's pc win xp is gone berserk. Ity seems they neglected the unit for ever. Took me 'bout 6hrs. just to finally download & install spybot, scanned it, as it was in the middle of fixing nearly 200 problems pc shutdown & restarted leaving me the unbearable task of waiting and trying to close aim, sys restore, error messages, etc.
I gave up! During boot it shows a message: U may b a victim of software counterfeiting ....Resolve, or.. Resolve later. Took me approx 15 minutes to open IE and it also seems to be compromised in some manner. Try to close something, it 's like molasses. Any help ? suggestioms ? advice ? so that I can install tools like HJT, Adaware, etc. Thanks very much.

Click on the small triangle with the red outline in the extreme upper right. That will allow you to ask a Moderator to move your Thread to the proper Forum- Malware Removal & HJT Logs.

Be patient there, because only is a limited number of folks are qualified to handle posts at that Forum. They have a gold or blue "shield" after their name/moniker.

The triangle is to the right next to the number of the post on the dark blue line above your 'moniker'. When you read this the number will be "4." Perhaps I shouldn't have used "extreme." I can't ask that your Thread be moved. Only you may do that.

I have asked the Moderators to take a look at this Thread. Wait a while before doing anything.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ah, yeah I'm familiar w/ the HJT process however, I'm contacting you guys from another friend's pc. My aunt's pc is the problem and I can't even open up the IE successfully, it is that massive the problem, it drags on for ever. How 'bout if I perform some command prompts ? or work on safe mode to get some sort of clearance to work from ?

HJT will work in safe mode. I can't give you any instructions until I get some idea of what the problem(s) might be.

It is small enough to fit on a floppy drive, you can burn it to a cd or use a thumb drive to get it to the infected machine.

I'll move this post to General Security. Since you started it she can't post to it with her own userid and she should have her own.

I bet if you can get her started we can help her.
