Solved: I need Firefox browser advise
I have a WinMe 2000 computer with an AT&T high speed internet
browser. For close to a year I have used this browser and have seen
more and more reasons to change. I do not think that I have to tell
you here at the site what my problems are with this browser, so I
will only tell you that I am now really to follow the advise that I
got here not too long ago. GET FIREFOX.

The advise I seek is really elementary for you here, since it was here
that I was told of the conveniences offered by firefox, that are not
added on my AT&T browser. I need to know which exactly firefox do
I download (free), Mozilla, firefox 2, or any other? And how do I go
about using both of my browsers?

Thanks, anything else you may add will be appreciated.

Mozilla, besides being the 'company' that produces Firefox, is an integrated email/browser suite. I prefer separate programs so I download both Thunderbird & Firefox-but people who prefer the integrated suite download Mozilla. It's pretty much your choice. If you just want the browser, download Firefox (version 2, unless you have a specific reason for downloading an earlier version). If you want the integrated suite then download Mozilla.

As for using both your browsers, I'm not familiar with the AT&T browser. Does it also establish your Internet connection? If so then you might need to run that first, then minimize it to run Firefox. But since I've never had AT&T that's purely a guess on my part.

I would recommend downloading the latest version of Firefox. This can be found here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ The reason for the association of firefox with Mozilla is simply that Mozilla produce firefox (along with a number of other programs, such as the email client Thunderbird). I hope you enjoy your firefox use and I'm glad there is another convert away from the dark ways of Internet Explorer and its ilk.

Calvin C, You could not have explained my question more accurately with respect to which firefox should I download. Specifically the integrated email/
browser suite.

Please let me tell you something about AT&T browsers. First, I am not surprised
that you have not heard of this browser. It seems like everyone I tell sound a
bit surprised. This browser came with my AT&T high speed internet programs
installed. It does establish internet connection, so I guess you may have to tell
me how exactly do I use both(minimize it to run firefox?). Come on Calvin, you are talking to an absolute nerd here.

I will have to guess that my choice has to be firefox 2 because I already have
e-mail browser. I will wait until I am sure how I am supposed to have and use
two browsers. If you can, please advise....And Thanks, you answered my
question about the differences between firefoxes.

Lerak, Thanks for your generous comment and advise. I have made up my mind
to go with firefox. As I have said numerous times here at the site, I tend to be
so intimidated when it comes to downloading and exploring the unknown, so I
really have no idea what exactly I must do to enjoy this supposedly life saver
firefox.

I mean, once I download it, I wil always know that my existing browser is in the
background. How do I handle that? I know, I sound childess but thats just how
I see it, and the reason that I have continued to put-off downloading firefox.

Tell me something arm-twisting convincing Lerak, and Thanks again.

You shouldn't need to run the AT&T browser first to run Firefox. Start up Firefox and should connect right to the internet.

It's difficult to be certain how you'll use both when I'm not sure of all that the AT&T browser does. My guess is that you'll continue to use it for your email unless somebody can tell you how to disable the email client in it. (Better yet if they can tell you how to connect to the Internet without using the AT&T browser. I certainly can't tell you how to do these things without knowing more about the AT&T browser than I do. Have you asked AT&T tech support?) (Just had a thought-is the AT&T email Web-based? If so then you should be able to use Firefox to check it, just like checking it from a public PC.)

With the assumption that you'll use the AT&T browser to establish your Internet connection & for email, what you should do is download Firefox 2 & install it. To use it, start your AT&T browser, let it connect, and then minimize it. Don't close it-closing it will probably close your connection. Minimize it, then start Firefox.

There shouldn't be any problem with both browsers running at once, and even less if the only part of the AT&T browser you're using is the email client. To check your email, restore the AT&T browser & open your email. Minimize it when done & go back to Web browsing with Firefox. When done Web browsing, close Firefox. If also done with email, also close the AT&T browser. I think it'll be that simple.

Stantley: OP said the AT&T browser establishes his Internet connection. I'm not familiar with the AT&T browser so I took him at his word, in which case he *does* need to run the browser before running Firefox. If you're familiar with the AT&T browser can you please tell him how to establish his Internet connection without using it? Thanks.

Good luck.

Thumbs up I need firefox browser advise
Calvin C, Lerak, and Stantley, Thanks guys, I did it!!

I downloaded firefox 2 and almost fell off my chair with surprise. I mean, I have had it
for just about 15 fifteen minutes and the add-ons that come with firefox blew me away.

I am not too concerned with how I will get me mail. That can wait until I learn how to
navigate through this magical invention of firefox. I will leave this thread open for a day or
two before I Click to solved button in order to request any other advise I may need if it
is alright with you guys.

I am satisfied really with the advise that I get here, from all those who have rapidly come
to my aid. Thanks guys again

Thumbs up I need firefox browser advise
Hey Guys, I`m back.

I have decided to click the SOLVED button on this thread. I want to first thanks the guys
who so unselfishly came to my assistance with my firefox issue, which was in fact not
an issue at all.

I find that indeed I can access my mail without opening or using my AT&T browser...which
in fact...I still cannot solve. It seems that when I click my desktop icon to open AT&T high
speed internet --- the firefox widow opens instead.

But that is not a problem that I want to bother you guys with....I will just have fun with this
new mystery until I solve it.

You guys have a good day. May your favorite football team win this weekend.
