Do you have CD/DVD burning software?
Do you have an external Hard drive?

How much data; i.e. the # of bytes, megabytes, gigabytes?

Do you have a flash drive?

I prefer to copy the files to a flash drive, DVD or CD, depending upon the size of data.
CDs hold ~ 700 MB.
DVDs hold ~ 4200 MB [ 4.2 GB ]
Dual layer DVDs hold 8400 MB
Flash drives hold 500 MB to 32000 MB [ 32 GB ]. www.newegg.com has them.
Copying to a flash drive takes a lot less time than copying to a DVD or CD.

There are many data backup programs available, but copying files to a flash drive requires no additional software.

Can you boot into safe mode? Do you know how to do that?
This explains:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once you boot into safe, if you can, you should be able to back up your data, and or try to resolve your virus issue. Boot into safe mode without networking for now.

It would be best scenario if you have updated your virus software (definitions) lately. If you have not, then you may try Safe booting with networking and updating your virus defs.

1. If you would like try to resolve the virus issue, try to run a virus scan in safe mode to see if your Virus software will catch it and remove it. Also run anti spyware/Malware software.

2. Try to copy the application log. Right click on my computer and go to "Manage". From here you will see "Event Logs". Select the application Event log and right click on it and select, "Save log file as". Attach the log file. to this post.

3. At this point you can also focus on backing up your data. Answer the questions above so that we can help you with the back up.
