I can't update my programs
I'm having a lot of trouble ever since I upgraded from my old reliable but slow dialup to my new, fast, but troublesome high-speed Comcast internet. Let me try and describe these problems for you. First of all, I can't update my programs. I first noticed there was a problem when the popup error box for Avast appeared at the bottom of my screen. When I clicked on it, it said that the autoupdate couldn't complete. So I tried manually and that failed as well. I also have Comodo Firewall and that won't update either. I just tried to update Ad-aware and no, that won't either. I thought I could download Avast and begin again with an entire new program, but once downloaded, I get an error message and setup won't start. I have a button bar with my favorite websites up at the top of my screen. I have to click on some of these five or six times now to get them to open. This usually happens right after I start the computer or after I close Firefox and once they've been opened, they will open with one click, until I turn the computer off and then the whole thing happens all over again. Sometimes Firefox won't open and I get the cannot find server message. This is usually when first starting the computer as well. I've tried disabling the Comodo thinking that it might be conflicting with the firewall in the router, and I've tried using Windows firewall instead, but that did nothing to solve the problem. I've tried flushing the dns, but that seemed to make things worse. I'm at a loss as to what to do now to solve this problem and it's driving me nuts. I'm about ready to go back to my old dialup--at least when I clicked on something I only had to do it once. Please help!!
