Unhappy Problems with Panda Software
Ok, so I have been going hand to hand with my LT over a continuing viral issue. I tried AAW, AVG, Norton, and finally Panda (trial ver). The problems started immediately as PS wanted to (actually INSISTED) upon removing all of my other malware/AV programs. What the helk? I figured as the LT was it wasnt much good so I sallied forth. After no less than 6 reboots I finally got PS installed. After running the full scan (took WAY too long, 1.5 hours on a 30gb drive. LT is a Dell 1.4 GHz 512mb RAM) it told me I had a virus. Chjoosing to delete the file only pissed off the virus more as it started poping up the PS removal window (The virus was a hack in CORE.SYS windows/system32/core.sys). ARRRGGGG!!! Reboot. Same results. Finally I went to the offending file and deleted it. Of course its never THAT easy so I rebooted (is that 7 or 8 times?) into Safe Mode and was able to delete the file. Reboot. Emptied Recycle Bin and got another error. Manually deleted the file from Recycle and then, get this, PS flashes up a message that IT had successfully defeated the hack! What a pant load! I only got rid of it because of my own training. Any decent virus scanner would have picked up th hack. I guess the point Im getting at is that PS isnt really worth the hassle. Now I have to reinstall AVG Free(which is actually pretty good, although it didnt pick up this problem. Hmmmmm) and also reinstall AAW. Its just too much effort for very little pay-off. Agree? Disagree? Id love to hear. HAGD-- NF's
