sygate personal firewall pro invalid 32 application
i got some software and when i tried to install it nothing happened. i checked running programs and nothing new so i deleted it. but now for some reason when i try to run sygate i get a message that say "smc.exe is not a valid win32 application". i uninstalled ran adware took some stuff off. re-installed sygate and samething again. i disconnected it from internet, i'm afraid to connect not sure what might be trying to get out. i never get on without firewall. i don't have any virus software but i know there is free scans online. anyone have any advice? should i just connect and do a scan for free or download free software then disconnect? or is it just something weird that i need to fix. i've been running sygate for a few years on xp and have never had this problem. sorry to be long winded but figured the more info i give the less questions till i can find any answer thanks in advance

Panda still offers a free online scane via active-x and IE7. The last time I checked Kaspersky (this week) , they were now offering a temporary download of their scanner. It requires uninstall of an existing scanner, but since you have none, that might fit your needs.

I still run Sygate PF on an XP and a Win98 PC. I've seen that message before and got worried too. My answer to being worried is a reformat, but I have spare drives with known good installs to copy. I'm sure you don't want to do that.

Try a System Restore. You might have to re-install sygate too. Some of the last versions of Sygate are available at oldversion.com.

yeah i tried the restore. nothing. panda did the invalid too. so did avast. and other firewalls too so some bug is blocking those things. its weird system restore didn't work. so i tried xp's install "new" operating system but it just deletes windows folder and replaces the files again incast somethings gone missing. but nothing. so i just reformated. didn't want to. just did it about a month ago and got all progs installed again and everything was great. but its good to reformat once in a while get all the junk out. thanks anyways still don't know what caused it.
