McAfee Security

Our access to internet is thru Verizon DSL w/MSN, which includes free McAfee virus protection. Recently had new hard drive installed. When logging on to MSN, was prompted to download updated version of MSN. When trying to reinstall McAfee, it detected AVG, which the compter store used to check cleanliness of drive. New McAfee listed quite a few free programs that its not compatable with(AGV,SpyBot search and destroy)How good is McAfee as standalone verses all the other good ones out there??
