The risk of posting my Email Address
Hello all: There is another fourm decated to antique tractors and they also provide a Clasified buy-sell service. Most post their phone number but I prefer getting Email replys. (Emails with detailed pictures of the item to buy or sell are best) I am thinking of using an older backup computer and backup Email provider to post my ads WITH my Email address for buyers-sellers to see right in the ad rather then play telephone tag hoping to get a real person rather then another phone recorder. This backup computer could be used only for emails and my two newer machines kept seperate. My question: What is the risk? So what if I have to re-format and reinstall the Operating system now and then. No big deal about that. I'd like buyers & sellers to use my Email address right away. Thanks for any comments. agpilot

The biggest risk in posting an email addy online is SPAM not infection, that can become a major nuisance especially if you have to weed through it to make sure you aren't missing out on legitimate business offers.

if you are going to do that I would strongly suggest setting up an email account for that purpose only. Also a way to fool the bots that harvest email addies from the web is to throw text into the addy something like " blahblah@(remove this text)isp.com"

To DarqueMist: Thanks. So that's why I've seen a few Email address with text in them. Yes I suppose they don't want the extra work to unscramble an address. Another thought I just had is: My 2 good computers for personal business are plugged into a router and then to a DSL modem. Would plugging this extra older "Email only" computer into that router allow the two good computers to get problems? If so, I'd just have to have use this Email only computer when the other computers are OFF.. Thanks.. agpilot
