theres a file on my comp thats a known backdoor called spoolsv.exe. it wont let me deleat it. how do i get rid of it??

btw the file is oin C:\WINDOWS\system32

Hello you need to post a hjt log please and let a security member advise you ..

If you have HJT already please uninstall before reinstalling new version
Click here to download HJTInstall.exe

• Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
• Click on Install.
• It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
• Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
• DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

1) Google doesn't 'say' anything-it just shows you links that say something about whatever you're searching for. Some links say spoolsv is a backdoor, other's say it's a system service (print spooler). AFAIK the truth is that it's the print spooler.

2) Most likely you can't delete it because it's in use. I'm not certain, but I think that if you deleted all your printers (or maybe if you set them to print directly to the port) then it would no longer be in use & you could delete it. But I wouldn't do that unless it is, in fact, infected.

SFP would restore it even if you could delete it. It's the print spooler service.

yes, in some cases it is a problem but only when it is infected, really when looking into these thing you need to do some serious research before you do anything that you regret, but in your case it is a nessecary part of windows
