Vista and apps from Gibson Research
Do the utilities that applied to win2k like shoot the messenger and such by Gibson Research need to be used with vista? Is there anything other than installing 3rd party virus and spyware applications and possibly a prefered alternate firewall to preplace the vista firewall i should know about that I need to do for security of my new vista pc.

Usually apps for Vista will have Vista in the specs or the page will tell you that it is Vista compatible. The older apps for other versions of windows I would not trust them to work with Vista - period.

I think everything he has there like "shoot the messenger" is stand alone" software and it's just the one file you download so it is easy to find out because it either works or does not work. If it does not work then delete the file.

The freestuff is here http://www.grc.com/freepopular.htm They each have a homepage that each will have more info.

http://www.grc.com/stm/ShootTheMessenger.htm
Says...
Shoot The Messenger allows any Windows
NT/2000/XP user to easily stop and disable
the unnecessary Messenger Service running
in their machines.

But also says at the bottom of the page...

So it may or may not work because he needs to update his page or pages.
