McAfee Problem
Folks -

I am running McAfee Total Internet Security Suite. Everything looks normal in that it says I am fully protected and performs regular updates. However, anytime I run a full scan, it picks up nothing - not even tracking cookies.

I had also been running Ad-Aware free 2007. A McAfee employee told me that the program will not work with any third party software present on the system, so I removed Ad-Aware and then used the MCPR.exe tool to remove McAfee. I reinstalled McAfee and it still picks up nothing. I am worried that I am sitting unprotected due to something buried deep in the registry or something.

Any help appreciated............

You can have your PC scanned online by these guys.

You can download a test file that AV programmers have agreed to call a virus for test purposes, though it is not a virus. This page has been around for years. I've used it to see if AVG, Norton or Mcafee worked.
http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

The goofy thing I've found about the current McAfee 2008 is that it identifies the above test file as a virus but then claims it can't delete it. Jeez, then it won't let me delete it manually unless I tell McAfee to trust it. What if I got a real virus....

And I don't think McAfee cares about cookies.

McAfee has a bad detection rate, i recently had a friend be infected with SmitFraud C and McAfee couldn't do a thing about it! I personally use a mix of programs that seem to work well, Avast!, Zonealarm, Spybot S&D and adaware there are many different combinations(avast-AVG ect.) but i find that works best, they are all free and work better than McAfee!

sorry was a little unclear its just Avast, AVG is another program with a lesser detection rate, go check a few of the avast or AVG arguments on this forum.
