Solved: Norton Antivirus - Client Updates
Hello,

We have recently updated Norton Antivirus to the latest edition.

Using the Symantec System Center we have deployed the updates to the Clients. This was succesfull on most but we have 4 that it refuses to connect to.

From the Client PC we can go through to the server and install the software / apply updates manually but it refuses when trying from SSC.

The error we get is that Symantec Anti Virus can not connect to...

Any ideas what we should be looking for...

TIA

My first guess would be check the firewall on the client machines.

If the firewalls are off, then i'd do a google search for manually removing symantec client. Then try pushing a new client to those machines. You could also google for a script called No-Nav. It will remove anything that has to do with any symantec product from the client.

Another thing i just remembered about was the software for APC UPSs can cause problems with Symantec's anti-virus. Is this software on any of those clients?

Thanks,

At least with the 1st one it seems to be the firewall settings (damn coleagues that cant leave their PCs alone).

Now onto the others

If you are using an Active Directory domain, it would be best to disable the firewall in group policy. Could even setup login and logoff scripts to disable the firewall internally then enable it when they logoff. That comes in handy for Laptop users.
