Cool Virus / Spyware Removal Tools
I wanted to find out what some of the popular removal tools are for field use when you are working on a customers computer. I am sure that there are many methods I don't know about, if the computer is able to connect to the Internet there are many online tools, but what about that stubborn PC that has been seriously infected. Or what about the trip to a customers house or business where you don't want to spend hours trying various removal tools. I think a lot of people would benefit from this exchange of information on this subject. I for one look forward to learning something new from all of you.

Cool Help Tools
That is an impressive list of removal tools, I was looking for more than one persons list of favorites since lists like that often tend to be favorite programs that one individual likes to use. Some of the links are inactive and may not be up to date. Sticky Posts are nice for rules and basic information on a forum but for something as important as Security and Removal Tools I personally think it needs more attention.
  1. Wilders Security Advisors - Website doesn't load
  2. Security Test Sites - 404
Its always nice to get that one reply from someone that is using something new that makes you go

WOW I got to have that.

I think you have an excellent point here.
I have been a member for over a year.
The same people keep saying get rid of Norton, of which I was one, and McAfee.

However, have any of these people recently tried these programs? I have quit saying to do so as it has been over a year since I used Norton.

When was the last time they did try them? Years before I joined?

I see elsewhere on the net where people are very happy with Norton 360 and recommend it. Maybe these people aren't very experienced? Well, maybe that's where Norton has a use.

These free apps are good, especially if you are looking to save a buck. But to tell someone immediately to get rid of what they have now for free? When was the last time they used them?

Go by reviews? I can post enough reviews no one would ever buy Vista or MS again. Or MAC or most anything.

These stickies have changed little in a year that I know of. Dates are very old. I think they need to be revised and reposted to reflect a more up to date recommendation. Even if they aren't changed, it would look better to see a 2008 date as opposed to a 2004 date.

Hi,

Sadly, the person who originally built that sticky post, does not prefer to work with malware cleaning these days, though he is still active at TechGuy and is highly regarded.....RollinRog.

Seems like no one has gone through and checked links etc so I have put a note in to other Mods and our Admins...

The rest of us are pretty busy but we will get there.

In the meantime> Wilders Security changed and has split into different things, they have an excellent forum, rather complicated to get around with tons of categories, but excellent:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php

I will see that those two links are fixed or removed, thanks for bringing that to our attention, and when I get time, I can check the rest and update as needed...

Here's a good list of security sites, tests, etc (but they also have the old Wilder's link)

http://www.kayodeok.btinternet.co.uk/

Now- regarding the dates the threads were created> I think I remember one of the Admins or Moderators saying sometime, that these we prefer to keep original>> we do Edit threads, posts, etc as we need to, and the information in posts changes....when it does, a new date at the bottom of the post {Last Edited by.....} is put there, so you are not being correct when you say they are from 2003, or 2004...that is when the first post in them was posted.
