Alternative to Norton?
I am a computer novice, and I currently have Norton 360 installed. My license is about up with them, and I don't want to renew it. I don't like how slow my computer runs, it doesn't seem to be very effective and I've heard bad things about Norton. SO I want to dump it. I also use Ad-Aware se personal, Spybot - Search & Destroy and SpywareBlaster.
My question is, what programs are recommended if I am going to rebuild my anti-virus package from the ground up? I don't know what is out there, and being pretty computer-stupid, I don't know what is trustworthy or what to look for in an anti-virus/anti-spyware progam.

I use ad-aware & spybot too, Nod32 is the best av iv used so far, high detection rate and doesnt use as much resources as some of the others iv tried, they do a 30 day trial, well worth looking at

I personally use avast! Antivirus and Sygate personal firewall, both of which do the trick for me!

Another good firewall is comodo, so I've heard. And AVG Free Antivirus also.

Basically from what I've learned... Norton<AVG<avast! ... Norton hasn't been cutting it now a days.

Ok, I uninstalled Norton using the removal tool, and I decided to go with Avast! free edition for my anti-spyware. Now, my understanding is AVG and Avast are pretty much the same, and I don't need both, right? My anti-virus/spyware arsenal now looks like this: Avast!, Ad-Aware, Spybot - Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster and CCleaner. Is this too much? Do I need anything else?

Hi you do not need AVG and Avast..I have Avg and Avast on two different systems both are good programs.
With Ccleaner best not to use the Registry cleaner..registry cleaners can cause you more problems.

Also include.
Superantispyware.

With the setup you currently have you should be all set to go! And yeah, blues_harp28 is right, I've heard the CCleaner can cause you many different problems if you use the registry fix. But the program itself is great! I love it.

How bout a firewall though? I personally use sygate personal edition but I hear Comodo is very good as well. Both of which are free.
