Angry Solved: Omg Hellllp
Hi-
I installed Kaspersky Internet Security (licensed version 7.0.1.25) and I am hanging forever at shutdown- it is saying ending program iexplore.exe then sits on logging off ( I am the only admin and only user) and then 15 minutes later it says (slight exaggeration) windows is shutting down,.Takes forever to shutdown. I uninstalled Kaspersky and same thing- not sure if it was Windows Update that did this? I have legal copies of Windows for the Genuine Advantage tool to run as well. Anyone help- I am running Windows XP Home-SP2 and Dimension 4700. I just reformatted it and lost my audio and video drivers. Of course Dell gave me no re-install disk for these but I got some off of their site so the exclamation marks are gone in device manager. When I click them they say everything is ok-
I installed :
Intel 8291 5G/GV/910 GL Express Chipset
Legacy Audio Drivers (SoundMax Integrated)
Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection

My internet works - shutdown is the issue-there are no conflicts or problems noted in device manager. It was working fine until all the Windows Updates were back on, reformatted my Gateway and installed Kaspersky too and re-updated it and that one is fine-it is the Dell 4700....help !
Thanks !!!

Just to be sure, the problem appeared immediately after installing Kaspersky? I'm going to ask the mods to move this to the security forum; they'll be better suited to addressing this, I think.

Thanks Chris- I finally fixed it on my own.
For some unknown reason, when you go to Windows Update, select custom and install the optional updates that I cannot see would have anything to do with my issue or my needs, it worked ??
No idea how or why- but at least all is back to normal.
YAY !
