I have run Norton 360 for 6 months with no problems. 6 weeks ago I was hit by Antispyware Shield. This changed my Int. Expl. front page and I had a hell of job getting rid of it. Since then my N 360 ran like a tortoise. A specific file, ccSvcHst.exe, was running at upto 98% of CPU. I received some help from synmantec then but to no avail. I uninstalled N 360 and deleted ccSvcHst.exe. My Pc ran perfectly but without protection. Today I have spent 6 hours messenging with Synmantec technicians who could not have been friendlier. They took control of my PC and sorted out my problems! (I thought) My computer is unuseable because it is so slow. To open any page in I.E. takes over 2 mins and to close a page down takes the same. This same file, ccSvcHst.exe, is running at over 90%. I am desparate to solve this problem and am considering righting off Norton and opting for another protection. Any recommendations?

Hi Lanzalad,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post regarding Norton 360. First, are you certain that you have removed all other third party internet security and/or antivirus applications from your computer? If not , please do so first, as they may cause further conflicts with Norton 360.

It appears that whatever you installed corrupted Norton 360, so the easiest way to resolve this issue is to properly uninstall and reinstall Norton 360. To do so, please follow the steps below carefully.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time.

3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton 360. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

4. When the installation is complete, please manually run LiveUpdate to make sure that all of the updates are downloaded and applied. To do so, Click Start-> All Programs->Norton 360->LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate will run again and download and install any additional updates that are available. When this is complete, close the LiveUpdate window by clicking the "Finish" button.

By default, as long as you are logged in to Windows and connected to the Internet, LiveUpdate will run in the background a few times a day and automatically download and install any future updates.

5. The last step is to run a full system scan on your computer. Please open the main Norton 360 window by going to Start->All Programs,->Norton 360, and then choose Norton 360 from the sub-menu.

6. Click on the 'Details" link located below the "PC Security" icon bubble.

7. Click on the "Run Scans" link at the bottom of the window. Choose "Comprehensive Check," and then click on the "Go" button. This scan may take a while.

Sent to Norton yesterday, the 5th Feb 2008
I have spent 6 hours today working with your technical guys regarding problems with my Norton 360. The last technician to help me, Vasanth Kumar, could not have been more helpful and obliging. His professional manner and courteous approach are a credit to your company. I was looking forward to completing the satisfaction form that Vasantha said would arrive tomorrow.

Unfortunately, things have not turned out as both Vasantha and I hoped for. The biggest, original, problem I had was the slowness of the program. I blamed a file, ccSvcHst.exe, that Vasantha said was associated with the scans within N 360. With nothing, and I mean nothing, running the file was using over 90% of CPU power. it went as high as 99% and the effect was to make the PC unuseable. Small Word files took over 2 mins to open and another 2 mins to close. The screensaver looked as if it was frozen!

I am concerned that i read on forum boards that this is an ongoing problem with ccSvcHst.exe . Is this true?

I shall try tomorrow to contact your on-line support to see if we can progress to a satisfactory solution. I trust you might monitor my progress. My original reference today was 487217256 with Vijayalakshmi but the session ended with a time out from logmein.com because of the length we were trying to solve the problem!

Yours faithfully

William Spencer
