As far as I can make out, there are a couple of versions. The "normal" one which I use, and the PSI-advanced software inspector.
As I am not sure what is the difference between the two versions, or which one is best to use, I would very much appreciate some advice and clarification. | | Distinguished Member with 4,901 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2002 Location: Birmingham, England | | SSI is an online scan where the software is on the Secunia site. I use it all the time and it's very useful.
PSI requires you to download software onto your computer which then inspects more things than SSI does and compares your installed software with an online database. It is still not the final version so I'm waiting until it is.
I did test the latest Release Candidate and it seemed OK, although I was disappointed that it only worked with IE. I also would have to create an Ignore rule because I have asecond, old, hard drive that has lots of old software on it!

Your response has clarified my concern. I have today used PSI, and the only vulnerability it showed was on the Antivirus component of Kaspersky Internet Security which I use. There is an Antivirus v.7.0, but the "Internet Security" software have Antivirus v6.0 as a component. This was, of course picked up by PSI.
The trouble is that you can not just change/update the Antivirus part of Kaspersky Internet Security. As my Kaspersky Internet Security is fully updated, I hope I am OK.
I think I will stick with the on-line scan. | | Distinguished Member with 4,901 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2002 Location: Birmingham, England | | Can you find a changelog on the Kapersky site that will show details of the changes between versions 6 & 7 of the antivirus? Unless V7 was to fix a 'critical' flaw in V6, you should be OK.
Even if it was, there may be something in the other components of KIS that protects V6 against any problems. Check on Kapersky's site, or in their Forum (assuming they have one), and see if there is any more information.

The KIS Forum does not have a reference to this particular issue. I have asked for clarification from the Kaspersky Technical Support and as soon as I have a response (sometime tomorrow), I will let you know of the outcome.
