Solved: Is this OK?
Last night, I replaced AVG with Avast.

I ran a scan and it put these items in the virus chest.

1. Kernel32.dll
2. Winsock.dll
3. Wsock32.dll

Is this ok or are these items needed by the operating system?

Did they come up as "changed"?

They say "Last changed 11/2/2006" and have the time they were changed listed.

It also says NO Virus after each one.

Change relates to recent MS Hotfix/updates, totally harmless.

So if this is ok, is it safe to delete them from the virus chest?

No, do not delete them. Avast is so good that it has false positives. Unless they didn't come from your %systemroot%\system32 folder then they shouldn't be deleted.

I checked and there is a copy still in the Windows, System32 folder. Does that mean that the ones in the Avast virus chest can safely be deleted?

Well, in the virus chest they can do no harm at all. If you feel you need to purge them than I don't see why you can't.

I would hold them in the virus chest for 2-3 weeks. If your computer runs fine after that length of time then you should be able to delete them

Yes, I will keep them for now to make sure they are not needed. Have not seen a problem yet.
