Opinion of MS LiveOneCare
Hi,
I had Norton 360 & it worked fine for awhile, but 4 weeks ago it blocked all my emails in Outlook (Small Business Edition 2003 with Contact Manager). The problem seemed fixed by adjusting all the settings & this worked for about 5 days then started again. The only way I can get emails is to disable Norton. I installed Norton's removal tool & I think I've totally removed it from my computer. I downloaded a trial version of Microsofts LiveOneCare, but know nothing about the program. Has anyone had the same problem with Norton 360? Can it be fixed? And does anyone have any experience or opinion of LiveOneCare?
I running Windows XP with SP3.
Thanks,
TheShar

I would recommend ditching any Norton product and the MS package as well. Instead, I have had tremendous success with AVG Antivirus. Their free product for home users at free.grisoft.com works fantastic. If you really think you need the "Full package", their Internet Security suite at www.grisoft.com works well also.

Good luck.

Hi Shar,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post. The symptoms you describe regarding your inability to get email with Outlook 2003 points to a configuration error in Norton 360. If you reinstall Norton 360, make sure that you are connected to the internet before doing so, to make sure that LiveUpdate runs and installs the latest program files and definition updates.

Next, please click on the link below and follow the instructions to allow Outlook to send and receive mail.

Change Norton 360 Email Settings

Please try the steps in this document and reply back to this thread and let me know if it resolves your issue.

Thank you,
Mike

Mike,
Thanks for your reply and help, but all that had already been done less than 10 days by the 2nd Norton tech when I contacted support via Live Chat. In other words it has been done twice, and this last time the tech told me to contact Customer Service Support, which I did by email and got almost the exact same thing you told me; which of course had already been done.

My computer is mainly used in my business rather than a "for fun" home computer, and I'm on the internet a lot, so I feel I really need a reliable Firewall and AV. I tried using Firefox, but there are two sites I'm on several times a day and neither of these sites will work with Firefox. So Firefox had to go. I am not computer savvy enough to tackle some of these challenges.

I have not attempted to reinstall Norton. And from what I'm getting from reading other blogs it seems to have a lot of problems. I'm kind of lost as to where to go now. I've already paid for Norton360 and can bet you I can't get my money back.
Just call me stumped.

I got your email reply, and I tried to reply to you but it kept telling me I was not authorized. I will be more than happy to work with you if you can help me.

Thanks for the help. I have your solution on standby, but Mike seem to think I can resolve the issue with Norton - since I've already paid for it I'd like to see if it'll work. We'll see. I use my computer in my business, as in a major portion of my time and I feel I need protection more than a AV. Most of my work is on the internet. Again I am grateful.
