New Machine came with trial PC Cillin
On our other 2 machines we were running the Free version of AVG & we had many many problems, alot on my daughters, MSN, Facebok etc. . .
I have decided to invest in a top rated anti virus, so just starting my research here. for this new machine, Amd cpu with Vista home, came with a trial verision of Trend Micro PC Cillin, any feed back on this one, good or aweful,
I'm just sick & tired of fighting viruuses & triojans, which without all your help here I could not have cleaned them & gone on.
Thanks, Moe

I went over all the reviews you suggested, depending on who wrote & what company it came from, some reviews omitted some TOP performers from other reviews, in other reviews the top of the heap went to the middle, the bottom performers went to the top.
It appeared that who ever had a Dog in the fight was going to stand at the top , the reviews appeared to be commissioned & paid for by the individual companies they wrote the article for, I guess it would be hard to find a PC Mag that was NOT supported by its advertizement which was placed & paid for by the companies they were in fact reviewing, they wouldn’t last very long.
I must say this was a disappointing starting point in determining which I will use, again Thanks

Hi sorry if the links added to the confusion.
We all no doubt over time try out various Anti-virus programs and then stay with what we find works best for us.
It's all down to personal preference and choice.
I have Avast installed on Win Xp and Avg installed on Win98se no real reason as to why.

Pc-illin is one of the programs that isnt suggested very often in these forums, i had it myself for a short amount of time, it hogged my computer, with its consistent updating and scans, it was making (WoW) at the time unplayable, but in all fairness it did come up with many problems and fixed them well, but i would suggest one of the line ups suggested around-the-place
but as above it is all down to preference, if your willing to pay NOD32 is probably the best AV, i would suggest Avast, but not AVG cause it has a low detection rate...yet quite a few people swear on it
there are HEAPS of threads in much the same situation if you were to go back a few pages here you would find quite a few threads on this topic.

Thank you for you reply,
Yes. . . I have found this PC-Cillin is a resource hog, not as much as a problem as it used to be, as we now have mega Cpu’s & gobs of RAM to keep up, but the lag time from hitting the start button until ready to use is more than annoying.
I will research your suggestions,
Thanks, Moe

Thank You, . . . blues_harp28, and sup2a,
I followed both your guide lines & decided on Kaspersky 7.0 (3 licence).
I then got really lucky & if you saw my post in the reviews section, found it on sale.
It was a little bothersome the first few days with contentious pop ups while it Learned, (the way I installed it) but Resources, speed of programs & the internet have increased since the change over from PC Cillin.
Strangely, & I am not sure if it is connected but my DSL speed has also increased by 350 kpbs to 4750 kpbs. ( With my new DSL Company I have been keeping a speed record)
I guess we will see how good it is when & if I run in to more Trojans & or viruses.
Again Thanks,
it is awesome having this Forum & good people like your selves here to offer Help!!
Yours,
Moe in Ontario
