Norton 360
Since installing N360 ,my computer has generally run like a dog.One of the issues is that Auto Protect keeps switching off and when I try to turn this feature on in the Settings option,it has no impact. Can any one help?

I've heard of Norton being a resource hog. But spyware can also cause slowdowns. And some malware do try to disable security software. Try reinstalling N360 and see what happens with the Auto Protect.

Hi Alan,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post Norton 360. Since Norton 360 is a comprehensive security suite, having other 3rd party security or antivirus applications installed can cause problems with Norton 360 and result in a slowdown and cause other problems.

As lunarlander said, there is also the possibility that your computer may be infected.

The first thing I would suggest is that you remove any other 3rd party security and antivirus applications using Add/Remove Programs.

Next, I would suggest that you use the Norton Removal Tool to properly remove Norton 360, and to then reinstall Norton 360. Please follow the steps below.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton 360. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

4. When the installation is complete, please manually run LiveUpdate to make sure that all of the updates are downloaded and applied. To do so, Click Start-> All Programs->Norton 360->LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate will run again and download and install any additional updates that are available. When this is complete, close the LiveUpdate window by clicking the "Finish" button.

By default, as long as you are logged in to Windows and connected to the Internet, LiveUpdate will run in the background a few times a day and automatically download and install any future updates.

Since Norton 360 has a Personal Firewall built-in, you also want to make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned off so that it does not conflict with Norton 360. Please check this setting in the Control Panel.

Next, please run a Full System Scan to make sure that your computer is not infected.

1. Click Start->All Programs->Norton 360, and then click on Norton 360 to bring up the main Norton 360 window.

2. On the top of the window, click on the link that says "Scans."

3. Click the button next to "Comprehensive Scan," and then click the "Go" button at the bottom of the window. Please note that this process may take some time depending on the amount of files on your computer, etc.

Please try the steps i presented above and let me know if this resolves the slowness issue.

Also, can you please let me know what version of Windows you are using and the specs of your computer.

Thank you,
Mike
