Question AV suggestions needed
It is time to renew Norton. I am running 2005 and the cost to renew is $50
Upgrade to 2008 is $40.....I rounded up a few cents on both.
What I am thinking of is doing neither since the price keeps increasing and the upgrade is cheaper but I don't want to upgrade.

I am thinking Avast or AVG free anti-virus products and just simply do away with (uninstall) the Norton product line.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice...

I've used Avg but it didn't pick up trojans like Avast did, I find it to be the best free AV around after trying several others

Thanks for the reply Dotty. You mentioned both AV's and I assume that by it you mean Avast?

yup Avast is much better than AVG, AVG has a much lower detection rate, but as always its down to personal preference.

Thanks to all for suggestion and advice. I uninstalled Norton this morning and installed Avast which is scanning now.

Since Norton is gone I also installed Zone Alarm firewall. Windows defender has been on the machine for awhile for spyware/malware/adware. I usually run spybot as a backup check but it doesn't ever find something that has been missed lately.
