Since you're asking .....

Not explicitly spelled out in the above links are phishing emails, emails that look real with banners and logos copied from real banks that ask you to resubmit your email and password for audit. They are always fake and designed to steal your info. Never ever respond to them. You probably have already received such emails from banks you never used.

A PC used for online financials has to be free of trojans and viruses that can intercept and steal your login info. Do whatever it takes to ensure that. Using the same PC to do online banking that the kids use to do facebook, instant messaging , share files, etc, is a bad idea in my opinion.

Hi here in the UK may apply else where there is a disposable credit card system.
When using online your main credit card is left untouched and the amount of money for any transaction is taken from the disposable credit card.

You also have to watch out for spyware, keyloggers and such. I recommend Webroot Spysweeper.

i really have to disagree with online banking i have heard way to many bad stories about money going missing or money being spent around the world and other bad stories and its VERY real not just something you hear of it has happened to two friend of the family i was not able to talk to about protective measures

you need VERY good protection (my opinion) some people have good luck and will never have a problem but you cannot just relay on the hope that all people will be nice enough to leave your account untouched, take ALL the measures you can, get the best security you can... dont just talk to stores either they will most likely make you buy the newest and most expensive product they have... The main thing you want to be sure of when you bank online is that your computer is clean to start with and keep it safe and secure all the time, and be VERY aware of any scams that appear in your email account...
well ive blabbered on for a while scuse' the long post
