Comodo V. 3.0
I just downloaded and installed Comodo version 3.0. Should I still download an AV program such as Avast!? or am I ok with just the Comodo running?

Hi Justawind

I would suggest you use an anti-virus since Comodo Firewall v3.0 isn't an anti-virus it's a firewall,

avast is a good choice.

Did you just download their firewall because they have an anti virus program too. If you just downloaded their firewall, yes you will still need an anti virus program. I have not personally heard much about their anti virus program. I know the firewall is good ... I use it but I have AVAST as my anti virus.

I think their Comodo AV is one of the best around. It also scans your mail in and out.

I'm not so keen on their Firewall though. It's techie and also drives you a bit mad and blocks things you don't want blocked sometimes to, or even blocks INTERNET access !

The Firewall that goes very well with the Comodo AV is Sunbelt Personal Firewall [by AVG]. It's free, easy to use and never bugs you. I have been using the above two for about a year and it's a great combo.

comodo
i didn't like the new 3.0 comodo firewall for my xp. so i went back to the 2.4. it loads a lot faster ,don't block items you want all the time and the computer shuts down faster.

Just downloaded Comodo 3 to give it a go after reading some firewall reviews:
http://www.matousec.com/projects/win...is/results.php

As good as Zone Alarm Pro and right up there with Kaspersky FW and the only firewall to pass all known leak tests. Not bad for free!
Comodo 3 has moved up and solved the few bugs from the last version I used. However, there is still a steep learning curve with this FW but it has it's own forum site. It's companion, the Comodo Anti-Virus has a built in e-mail scanner and is simplicity itself to use.

did you try using the firewall with the anti-leak setting instead of the defense+ feature?

you'll get less pop up alerts,

it's hard to use at first but it has a great help file in it and the forum is very helpful.

Yep, I've given that a go.

The big thing with this firewall is a clean install. Also before you install -because it will be hell itself to uninstall if you don't like it- do a system restore point and name it 'pre-comodo' and then do an 'ERUNT' [google it] registry back-up and then install Comodo. If you don't like Comodo or have any issues, do the systen restore and then the ERUNT reg. restore which will wipe out any trace of Comodo FW from the registry.

See Comodo forum re- uninstalling, it's a nightmare of high tech. ability. My way works because I've done it with no problems [I had to remove the comodo 2 version to install Comodo 3].

Everything working great with Comodo 3 !
