McAfee Security Suite vs. Norton/Spysweeper
Can anyone tell me how the McAfee Security Suite, offered free to me by my cable company's high speed internet service, compares to my Norton Antivirus and Webroot Spysweeper packages I currently use, and used with my dial-up?
Thanks...

I would STRONGLY suggest using neither product. Instead, you will have great security and performance from your new cable connection with the following:

1. AVG Antivirus (http://free.grisoft.com
2. Browse exclusively with Mozilla Firefox (www.firefox.com)
3. Use an inexpensive router to connect between your cable modem and your computer
4. Enable the Windows Firewall
5. Periodically run an anti-spyware scan if you tend to hit porn, gambling, MySpace, or free ring tones/screensavers sites).

Good luck and welcome to high speed!

Excellent...this is the kind of advice I'm looking for, as an old guy joining the 21st century of high-speed internet hook-ups! Thanks!
I had never heard of AVG until a few minutes ago, when I found this thread:

http://forums.techguy.org/general-se...nti-virus.html

The discussion there mention AVG and something called Avast? Any experience with that?

if i had the choice between avast and AVG. id pick avast because theyre both free, but as it stands avast is slightly better than AVG. however ive used mcafee for years and i love it, but its down to personal preference really

just get rid of norton what ever you do and dont forget to use the norton removal tool downloaded from their website
